Netbook Deployment Day!
Written by Eric Bird
What a day! A class set of netbooks loaded with software was introduced at Mettawee. The students were respectful, but had more excitement-containing wiggling in their chairs than my dog at dinner time. To make the day even better, I introduced podcasting and let them create their first recording. Because the netbooks have a nice black rubber coating and are a bit heartier to accidental drops, “Ruggedized” was the word of the day, and we sure had a lot of fun saying it. Most of the students were absolute naturals and found their way around the computers easily, asking pertinent questions as we moved along. With this type of motivation, it should be easy to incorporate curriculum-based projects very soon.
